2025 5K News

Tulsa’s only Day of the Dead (El Día de Los Muertos) 5K Fun Run on November 1, 2025, was the purr-fect way to celebrate Hispanic culture while supporting a great cause to help children locally and globally. With 160 participants, some wearing skeleton costumes, Mita’s Foundation and DJ Gato (Javier Alducin) hosted the 3rd annual event at LaFortune Park. The atmosphere was festive with a Bounce House by Sophia and face painting for kids by F. Thompson Art, and tamales and hot chocolate for all donated by El Patron Cocina Mexicana.
“As far as we know, this is the only race in Oklahoma organized by a Hispanic organization to celebrate Día de los Muertos as a cultural event,” said Tina Peña, President/CEO of Mita’s Foundation.

PROCEEDS FOR PERUVIAN YOUTH AND TULSA CHILDREN
Peña thanked the volunteers, 5K participants and sponsors for their efforts in supporting the mission of Mita’s Foundation and DJ Gato.
“These funds will help us continue offering classes at the girls’ detention center (Centro Juvenil de Diagnóstico y Rehabilitación-Santa Margarita) in Lima, where Mita’s volunteers are teaching valuable life skills such as furniture making and cake decorating,” Peña said. “Many of these youth have endured unimaginable hardship and are now learning to create and sell their own products, even while in handcuffs. It is heartbreaking yet inspiring to witness their determination and growth toward a brighter future.”
DJ Gato is donating a portion of the proceeds to his children’s school running club which benefits the Tulsa community with a positive and healthy activity.
