Bio-Tina

Tina Peña • President

Tina is a Spanish professor and a Medical Interpreter Trainer at Tulsa Community College. She is the host of Temas en Tulsa, an award-winning television program produced in Spanish that covers current events and topics of importance to Spanish speaking viewers. 

Tina is involved at the local, national and international levels as a member of the Governor’s Task force for the Advancement of Hispanic Students in Higher Education, the United Nations of Eastern Oklahoma, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, American Translators Association, American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Community Service Council, Disaster Resilient Cross Cultural Council and ACLU. She is a past Chair for the National Board of Medical Interpreters. She also serves on the Language and Cultural Bank Board and the Martin Luther King Board. 

Tina has won several teaching and community service awards. Notable honors include: Pinnacle Award (2007), Nania Volunteer of the Year Award (2012), “Orgullo Peruano” by Peruanos en Oklahoma (2013), Human Rights Award by the United Nations of Oklahoma (2015), Association for Women in Communications Newsmaker Award (2017) and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Community Leader Award (2018). 

As a dedicated educator, in her free time she enjoys tutoring the local youth of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
